NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Favorites
Ashton Jeanty at +250 is the clear and obvious incoming favorite after his Heisman finalist campaign at Boise State. With the Las Vegas Raiders taking Jeanty with the 6th pick, they are looking to give their depleted offense some big time juice. Last year drafting superstar tight end Brock Bowers to get their offense moving forward but with no big time quarterback to lead this offense, Jeanty can put up some big time numbers.
The Raiders just trading for Geno Smith is not a real needle mover and with the Raiders having one of the weakest wide receiver rooms in the entire NFL, all things are leading to Ashton Jeanty being the focal point of the offense and having a great chance at taking this award home.
The number one overall pick to the Tennessee Titans, Cam Ward having the second best odds to win at +380 could go one of two ways. He could have a real stinker of a season like some rookie quarterbacks do and people are going to say those odds were way too high. Or could have a standout year and people are going to say how wasn’t he the favorite coming into the year. With no real competition in the quarterback room the job is his and going to stay his.
They added help to their wide receiver room with adding veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett. With also guys like Calvin Ridley being there and Tony Pollard taking most of the snaps at running back, the Titans are looking to be a pass heavy offense and with Ward’s ability to run he could be a good pick to win the award.
Long Shot
This draft class was loaded at the running back position with 25 being taken in the draft. A guy who has kind of gone under the radar with the Denver Broncos is R.J. Harvey at +2000 odds. With the running back room being pretty thin in Denver it is going to be a competition between Harvey and Audric Estime to see who is going to be the RB1. With the Broncos not really addressing the wide receiver position in the offseason there are expectations for Harvey to have a 1,000 yard season and could really set himself up to have a successful rookie campaign and at the odds he is at could be a really interesting guy to take a shot on.
The New England Patriots are looking to get their team back to the glory days of when Super Bowls seemed to be a sure thing for them. With the Patriots taking running back TreVeyon Henderson in the 38th pick in the 2nd round, he is coming in with +2200 odds to take home the award. Like earlier stated this is a deep running back class but Henderson is one of the more well known guys and one of the guys that is really expected to excel at the NFL level.
With running behind rookie offensive tackle Will Campbell, Henderson is set up to have a great rookie season and could do more than anticipated to win the award. There could be a possibility that the reps get split between Henderson and veteran Antonio Gibson, but it will only be a matter of time where Henderson takes full control of the running back room and puts up good numbers.
Stay Clear Of
When the New Orleans Saints went quarterback in round 2 it seemed like no one had expected them to with Tyler Shough out of Louisville. And there is a reason for that, there were better quarterbacks sitting on the board and he is not a second round talent.
With Derek Carr retiring unexpectedly this off season people might now look at Shough as an option to bet on for this award at +1200 odds. The job for starter is up for grabs still between Shough, Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener. If Shough cannot win the battle for number one it says a lot for a weak quarterback room, but there are just better longer shots to take.
Another guy to pass on for this pick is Indianapolis’ Tyler Warren. Warren was the heart and sole of the Penn State Nittany Lions last season. +2500 odds looks very good for a guy who had broken records last year at Penn State and who can do anything you ask of him to do on the field, but this is not a tight end award.
A tight end has never won the Offensive Player of the Year Award and with how much the league and the voters value quarterbacks, receivers, and running backs so much more than tight ends, it just feels like this will not be the year that a tight end wins it. Also with so many questions surrounding Anthony Richardson and if he can be the quarterback of the future in Indianapolis, it would be best to ride with someone else.
Thoughts & Betting Predictions for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year
If you are looking for a bet for sure money Jeanty is your guy. The most dominant running back in college last year is going to pick up right where he left off and continue his dominance.
A nice longshot to take to possibly bring in some real money is R.J. Harvey with the Denver Broncos. Him being the sole guy in the locker room is going to do wonders for him, and I would imagine his odds get closer to even as the season gets closer and the year goes on.
And someone who has a lot higher odds than previously expected is Tyler Shough. He may not even get the role coming out of camp and once he does get to see the field this season, there is not much expectation of anything being over the top that would be needed for him to win the award.
