Best NJ sportsbooks and betting apps, ranked

New Jersey won the Supreme Court case that let every state legalize sports betting, and its bettors have had longer than almost anyone outside Nevada to work out which apps are worth keeping. Around 97% of the money bet in the state now goes through a phone. Sign-up offers get the attention, but you only claim one. Over a season, what matters is where the odds sit, whether your market is covered, and how fast your money comes back when you win.

NJ sportsbook reviews: the top 5 in detail

FanDuel Sportsbook NJ: the most complete app in the state

FanDuel Sportsbook New Jersey runs under the Meadowlands Racetrack’s sports wagering license, and its retail book sits at the track, 0.6 miles from MetLife Stadium. The online sportsbook soft-launched on September 1, 2018, and it has led the state ever since. FanDuel earned $470 million from NJ bettors in 2025, far more than any rival.

Its edge is the same-game parlay builder, still the benchmark in New Jersey, with live SGPs on NFL and NBA games. BetProtect+ adds injury protection to eligible player props for an extra 3% of the stake, and one wallet covers the sportsbook, casino and PokerStars poker. The app is rated 4.85 on the App Store from more than 2.2 million ratings.

The current FanDuel NJ promo: bet $5 a day for 7 days and get $50 in bonus bets each day. No Promo Code needed. Read our FanDuel Sportsbook NJ review or see the FanDuel NJ bonus code page.

DraftKings Sportsbook NJ: the deepest prop menu for NFL Sundays

DraftKings Sportsbook New Jersey took the state’s first online sports bet on August 6, 2018, after an invite-only soft launch. It operates under the Resorts Casino Hotel license in Atlantic City, where it also runs a retail book. It’s New Jersey’s second-biggest sportsbook, with $325 million in revenue from NJ bettors in 2025.

Prop bettors are its core audience. DraftKings posts around 150 player props per NFL game, and SGPx lets you combine same-game parlays from different games on one ticket. BetVision streams NFL games with betting lines on screen, and Dynasty Rewards handles ongoing perks. Prices on some popular props trail rival books, so compare before a big bet. The app holds 4.82 stars on the App Store from more than 1.2 million ratings.

The DraftKings NJ promo: bet $5, get $200 in bonus bets, plus 3 months of NBA League Pass. The bonus bets arrive in four $50 installments. Read our DraftKings Sportsbook NJ review and the DraftKings promo code page.

bet365 Sportsbook NJ: the best app for live betting

bet365 Sportsbook New Jersey launched in August 2019 as the company’s first US sportsbook, under the license of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City. It finished fifth in NJ sports betting revenue in 2025, at $64.6 million, but no book in the state does in-play betting better.

The app streams a wide range of events, and Same Game Parlay+ works live as well as pre-game. Early Payout settles a moneyline bet as a winner once your team leads by a set margin, such as 17 points in the NFL. Spreads and totals are often dealt at 10-cent lines across nearly 40 sports, and Apple Pay withdrawals are instant. There’s no points program, and welcome offers can be claimed only in the app, which is rated 4.78 from 349,486 App Store ratings.

The bet365 NJ offer: bet $10, unlock $200 in bonus bets. See our bet365 Sportsbook NJ review and the bet365 NJ bonus code page.

BetMGM Sportsbook NJ: the best rewards for Atlantic City regulars

BetMGM Sportsbook New Jersey operates under the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa license. It started as the playMGM mobile sportsbook in 2018 and became BetMGM in September 2019. It ranked third in NJ sports betting revenue in 2025, with $85.8 million.

Every bet earns MGM Rewards tier credits you can use at Borgata and other MGM resorts, and the BetMGM Sportsbook & Bar at Borgata takes cash deposits and withdrawals at the cage. Edit My Bet lets you add or swap legs, or raise your stake, after you’ve placed a bet. Hockey and European soccer are particular strengths, which suits Devils fans and Premier League bettors. Live streaming doesn’t cover the major US leagues. The app is rated 4.76 on the App Store from 260,810 ratings.

The BetMGM NJ bonus: bet $10, get $150 in bonus bets if your bet wins, with Promo Code BETMGMBONUS. Read our BetMGM Sportsbook NJ review and the BetMGM promo code page.

Fanatics Sportsbook NJ: FanCash on every bet

Fanatics Sportsbook New Jersey launched on May 8, 2024, replacing PointsBet under the Bally’s Atlantic City license. It has grown fast: fourth in NJ sports betting revenue in 2025, with $82.9 million, and third through July 2026.

Its hook is FanCash. Every bet earns it, and you can spend it on bonus bets, casino credit, or Fanatics merchandise and tickets. Since September 2026, betting, casino and FanCash have shared one app, Fanatics Sports & Casino, rated 4.83 on the App Store from 285,815 ratings. PayPal and Venmo withdrawals often arrive within hours, and an in-app tracker shows where each request stands. The prop menu is thinner than FanDuel’s or DraftKings’, Fanatics doesn’t advertise live streaming in New Jersey, and there’s no desktop site.

The Fanatics NJ promo: bet $20, get $350 in FanCash, with Promo Code FAN350. You must opt in daily to collect the full amount. Read our Fanatics Sportsbook NJ review and the Fanatics promo code page.

NJ sports betting history: how New Jersey beat the federal ban

New Jersey spent most of a decade fighting the federal ban on sports betting. Voters backed legal betting in 2011, the NCAA and the major leagues sued, and the case reached the Supreme Court. On May 14, 2018, in Murphy v. NCAA, the Court struck down the federal law. Gov. Phil Murphy signed New Jersey’s sports betting law on June 11, and three days later he placed the state’s first legal bets at Monmouth Park: $20 on Germany to win the World Cup and $20 on the Devils to win the Stanley Cup. Neither came in. Julius “Dr. J” Erving placed the first bet at Borgata the same morning.

FanDuel opened its sportsbook at the Meadowlands, a short walk from MetLife Stadium, in July 2018. On August 6, DraftKings took the first online bet in New Jersey through Resorts.

NJ sports betting revenue: how big the market really is

New Jersey is the third-largest sports betting market in the country. Bettors wagered $12.23 billion in 2025, including futures, and sportsbooks kept $1.18 billion of it. The record year was 2024, with $12.77 billion, and the busiest month ever was January 2024, at $1.72 billion. Football alone drew about $1.82 billion in bets in 2025, not counting parlays, which were the single biggest category.

FanDuel and DraftKings dominate. In 2025, FanDuel earned $470 million from NJ bettors and DraftKings $325 million, with BetMGM, Fanatics and bet365 well behind.

Legal NJ sportsbooks: who’s licensed and who’s left

Every legal NJ sportsbook is licensed by the Division of Gaming Enforcement and partners with an Atlantic City casino or a racetrack. Each licensee can run up to three online brands. The current field includes FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars, bet365, Fanatics, BetRivers, Hard Rock Bet, theScore Bet, Borgata, Bally Bet, betPARX, Prime Sportsbook and Betinia, the newest arrival.

The list changes. Several names you may remember have left: PointsBet became Fanatics in 2024, Golden Nugget closed its online sportsbook the same year, Betway and SuperBook pulled out, the Prophet and Sporttrade betting exchanges left the state, and ESPN Bet became theScore Bet in December 2025.

NJ sports betting rules: age, location and the college ban

  • Age: 21.
  • Location: you must be physically in New Jersey. Your home address doesn’t matter, but geolocation checks where you are every time you bet.
  • College sports: state law bans bets on any college game played in New Jersey and on any game involving a New Jersey college team, wherever it’s played. That rules out Rutgers, Seton Hall, Princeton and Monmouth, among others. College games between out-of-state teams played outside New Jersey are fine, so you can bet Penn State, Notre Dame or Villanova. Voters rejected a 2021 ballot question to lift the ban, 57% to 43%.
  • High school sports: banned.
  • Pending bills: separate bills would ban player props on college games and rapid-fire micro-bets. Neither has become law.

Betting in NJ from New York or Pennsylvania: the state-line rule

Thousands of New Yorkers cross the Hudson to bet. Before New York launched mobile betting in January 2022, New Jersey sportsbooks said at least a fifth of their business came from New Yorkers. The rule is simple: if you’re standing in New Jersey, you can bet with an NJ account, whatever your home state. If you’re near the state line, give the app a moment to confirm your location before you try to bet.

How to choose an NJ betting site: what actually matters

Prices. A sportsbook that offers -105 instead of -110 on a spread saves you real money over a season. Serious bettors keep accounts at three or more books and take the best line on each bet. It’s legal and common in New Jersey.

Markets. FanDuel and DraftKings offer the deepest same-game parlay and player prop menus. bet365 is strongest for in-play betting and live streaming. If you bet niche sports such as soccer’s lower leagues or tennis challengers, check the menu before you deposit.

Payouts. PayPal, Venmo and Play+ withdrawals usually land within hours of approval. Bank transfers take a few business days.

Rewards. Caesars and BetMGM tie points to hotel stays and dining in Atlantic City; Fanatics pays FanCash you can spend on team merchandise; Hard Rock Bet links to its Unity rewards.

NJ sportsbook promos explained: four offer types, four different values

  • Bonus bets: you keep the winnings, not the stake. A $200 bonus bet at even money returns $200.
  • Bet and get, win or lose: place a small first bet and receive bonus bets either way. The most dependable value.
  • Bet and get, if you win: bonus bets arrive only if your first bet wins.
  • First-bet reset: if your first bet loses, you’re refunded in bonus bets, not cash.

New Jersey requires operators to file promotional terms with the DGE before launch and to state them clearly. Read the minimum odds and expiry dates before you place a qualifying bet.

NJ sports betting tax: what operators and bettors pay

Sportsbooks pay 19.75% of their online betting revenue to the state, up from 13% before July 2025, plus a 1.25% additional tax.

Bettors owe New Jersey income tax on gambling winnings. When a payout is large enough to trigger federal withholding, the sportsbook also withholds 3% for New Jersey. Losses can offset winnings in the same year, up to the amount you won.

Retail sportsbooks in NJ: where to bet in person

New Jersey has 11 retail sportsbooks. The best known are the BetMGM race and sportsbook at Borgata, FanDuel at the Meadowlands Racetrack, and the Caesars Sportsbook at Monmouth Park, which opened a new 16,000-square-foot venue in November 2025. Every Atlantic City casino also runs a book.

Responsible sports betting in NJ: limits, self-exclusion and help

Set deposit and time limits in your app before you bet. You can self-exclude from all NJ online betting for one or five years from your account, or from all NJ gambling through the DGE. Gambling problem? Call 1-800-GAMBLER.
