Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, Atlantic City

By Elizabeth TaylorUpdated

Borgata is the biggest casino in Atlantic City by almost any measure. It opened on July 2, 2003, in the Marina District, the first new resort in the city in 13 years. It started as a joint venture between MGM and Boyd Gaming. MGM bought out Boyd’s half in 2016 and has run it as an MGM Resorts property since.

It is also the city’s top earner. Borgata won $800.8 million from in-person gamblers in 2025, up 8.5% on the year and well ahead of second-placed Hard Rock. It led the market again in the second quarter of 2026.

Everything is under one roof: a huge casino floor, the city’s largest poker room, a race and sportsbook, two hotel towers and a long list of restaurants. The Boardwalk and beach are a short drive or jitney ride away.

Hotel towers

Borgata has more than 2,700 rooms and suites across two towers.

The Borgata Tower is in the middle of a $107 million renovation. Work began in September 2026 and covers every room and suite, the corridors, the elevator lobbies and the main lobby, known as The Living Room. Rooms return floor by floor, with completion expected in 2027. The design, by Los Angeles firm Avenue Interior Design, uses warm wood with blue and metallic accents. The same studio redid the B Bar.

The casino floor

Borgata has the largest gaming floor in Atlantic City, at about 161,000 square feet, with more than 2,500 slot machines. Denominations run from a penny to $1,000.

Recent work has changed the floor a lot:

  • Asian gaming area. Opened in May 2025, it has 51 tables, five private gaming salons and its own high-limit section. It is the largest dedicated Asian gaming space in the city, with baccarat and pai gow.
  • B Bar. The casino-floor bar was stripped to the concrete and rebuilt, reopening on May 9, 2025.
  • High limits. The Miralto salon is the private, gated high-limit room.

Table games include blackjack, craps, roulette, baccarat and pai gow poker, plus electronic table games in the Stadium Gaming area.

Poker room

Borgata runs the biggest live poker room in Atlantic City, with 52 tables and 24-hour play. No-limit hold’em at $1/$3, $2/$5 and $5/$10 runs daily. Bigger games and mixed games tend to run on weekends and during series.

The room hosts the Borgata Poker Open and the Borgata Winter Poker Open, its two big tournament series each year. Both used to be World Poker Tour stops and now run under the Borgata name.

Sportsbook and racebook

Borgata opened Atlantic City’s first sportsbook on June 14, 2018. It now runs as the BetMGM Sportsbook and Racebook, near the North Entrance and the poker room, and it takes horse racing bets as well as sports.

Online casino, sportsbook and poker

Borgata’s New Jersey license is the home of MGM’s online brands in the state. Borgata Casino and BetMGM Casino run on the same platform, and so do the Borgata and BetMGM sportsbooks. Borgata Poker and BetMGM Poker share a player pool.

Restaurants and bars

Borgata leans on steakhouses and Asian food.

  • Old Homestead Steak House. The Borgata outpost of the New York steakhouse. It reopened in December 2022 after a remodel.
  • B Prime. A steakhouse on the casino floor, in the former Bobby Flay Steak space.
  • Angeline by Michael Symon. Italian, from the Food Network chef.
  • Noodles. A pan-Asian restaurant that started at Bellagio in Las Vegas, opened in May 2025 next to the new Asian gaming area.
  • American Bar & Grille. A casual American restaurant.

For drinks, the B Bar is the center of the casino floor. The Gypsy Bar is a tequila bar with live music, and the Long Bar and Lobby Bar are good places to meet up. Premier Nightclub held its final night on Aug. 31, 2025, after almost a decade.

Entertainment

Borgata has two main venues. The Event Center is a 30,000-square-foot hall with 30-foot ceilings that takes the biggest touring acts. The Music Box is a smaller theater and home of the Borgata Comedy Club, with tribute acts and musicals filling the rest of the calendar.

Spa and pools

Spa Toccare offers massages, facials and couples treatments, and there is a salon and a barbershop. The Borgata Tower has an indoor pool and an outdoor pool with cabanas and a seasonal beer garden. MGM Tower has its own indoor and outdoor pools.

Getting there

Borgata is at 1 Borgata Way in the Marina District. By car, the Atlantic City–Brigantine Connector runs from the Atlantic City Expressway straight to the Marina casinos. Borgata has a self-parking garage and valet.

Without a car, take the NJ Transit train from Philadelphia to the Atlantic City rail terminal, then the Atlantic City Jitney to the Marina District. Atlantic City International Airport is about 20 minutes away.

Smoking is allowed in designated parts of the casino floor under New Jersey’s casino exemption. For a look at the other eight casinos, see our Atlantic City casinos guide.
