The San Francisco 49ers are going to be battling NFL history as they attempt to get back to the Super Bowl and this time win it. Here is a list of the NFC Champion 2024-2025 odds, best bets and our betting prediction.
49ers’ Road to Redemption: Overcoming Historical Odds and Roster Changes
You need to go back 50 years to find an NFC team that lost the Super Bowl and returned the following year. That team was the Minnesota Vikings in 1973 and 1974. The Dallas Cowboys went to the Super Bowl, lost in 1970, and returned to win the following year, making it the only time that has occurred in the NFC.
On paper, the 49ers, who lost last year’s Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs, are the favorites to win the NFC at +250. They have the second shortest odds to win the Super Bowl at +600 with the betMGM NJ bonus code.
The Niners brought back most of their NFC Champion roster, but do feature a new defensive coordinator, as Nick Sorensen replaced 2023 coordinator Steve Wilks.
One story to keep an eye on is the contract situation with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who is seeking a contract extension and has requested a trade.
So the 49ers might have a history going against them but have a very talented roster, led by quarterback Brock Purdy, running back Christian McCaffery, tight end George Kittle, and wide receivers Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel.
NFC Contenders: Examining the Competition and Their Stories
However, while the Niners are the NFC favorite, and likely the best team on paper, there are some NFC teams with compelling stories this season.
Detroit has the second shortest NFC odds +550 at NJ’s bookies, has improved their team through the draft, and has a year of success under their belt. Quarterback Jared Goff has an explosive passing game and one of the best offensive lines in football to protect him. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is one of the best play-callers in the NFL and returns after plenty of heading coaching interest around the league.
Philadelphia, the 2023 NFC representative, is third at +600.
The Eagles feature a ton of skill position players, and new offensive and defensive coordinators in 2024. They were 10-1 at one point last season and a strong favorite to win the Super Bowl, before dropping six of their final seven games and losing to Tampa Bay in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
Dallas looks to return to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1995 with odds of +700 to win the conference. The Cowboys will lean on quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, both are looking for new contracts, which could be a distraction this season.
Prescott and the Cowboys need to prove they can win in the playoffs, something they have been unable to do. They also have a new defensive coordinator, former Vikings head coach MIke Zimmer replaces Dan Quinn, who is now the head coach in Washington.
Another team to consider, that offers some good value is the Green Bay Packers to win the NFC at +800. Packers quarterback Jordan Love just signed a monster new deal after leading the 9-8 Packers to the NFC Championship game. The Packers added former Raiders running back Josh Jacobs and feature a deep receiving core for Love.
The Pick
I’m going to go with Philadelphia. While many people are down on the Eagles, they have so much talent on offense, with the addition of Saquan Barkley, AJ Brown, and Devonta Smith, and with Kellen Moore now at the controls, they should be a more explosive offense than Brian Johnson’s offense was in 2023.
New defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has plenty of talent, with Jalen Carter, the return of C.J. Gardner-Johnson at safety, and a deep and talented secondary with first-round pick Quinyon Mitchell across from Darius Slay.
