The Heisman Trophy ceremony is one of the most anticipated events of the college football season. This upcoming season there are a ton of names who are looking to take home the trophy and it is a wide open field.
Last year’s winner Travis Hunter came into the season with +3500 odds to win the award, and the year before that Heisman winner Jayden Daniels had +1100 preseason odds with the top NJ sportsbooks, such as bet365 NJ. So it is very hard to determine who is going to come out with the award.
Heisman Trophy Award Winner Odds
Player | Team | Odds | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Arch Manning | Texas | +700 | Most hyped player of the season. Dual-threat QB with the Manning legacy. |
Garrett Nussmeier | LSU | +900 | Gunslinger QB entering 2nd year as starter, big arm, but turnover-prone. |
Drew Allar | Penn State | +1600 | Led team to College Football Playoff, strong arm, upgraded receiving corps. |
The Value Bets and Picks
As you can see from the odds there is not a real true favorite, but there definitely is some real value. The guy who is going to have the most eyes on him this season is the newest Manning quarterback, Arch Manning from Texas is at +700 odds. Arch has had a great deal of buzz around him since his high school days because of his last name. Manning had some reps last season when Quinn Ewers got benched, and also started 2 games last year that he won both when Ewers went down with an injury. Texas is just behind Ohio State in the sportsbooks to win the National Championship this year and a lot of that is riding on Manning being the next great quarterback at Texas.
The thing that is going to help Arch out is how he changes the Texas offense so much when he is on the field and you saw it when he played last year. His dual threat ability makes defenses have to play him a completely different way because of how strong and accurate his arm is, mixed with his ability to run he is going to be giving all defenses problems. Another big factor that can help him win this award is that he is a Manning.
College football would love it if they could give the award to a Manning and be able to market him. Arch is a strong candidate to win this year, we just will have to see what he can do in his first year as the full time starter.
Another great value pick is Garrett Nussmeier out of LSU with odds at +900. Nussmeier last season finished fifth in the country in passing yards and second in the SEC in passing yards and touchdowns thrown. This will be Nussmeier’s second season as the starter in Baton Rouge and is looking to improve upon his season last year to be able to get his draft stock higher. Nussmeier is a true gunslinger and loves to let the ball fly, he has a really big arm and there is not a throw that he does not like.
Which could turn out to hurt is the Heisman race, last year he was in a three way tie for most interceptions in the SEC with 12. Head coach Brian Kelly has said that Nussmeier has looked really good in spring ball and that his main thing was building good relationships with the receiving room. He has redshirt junior receiver Aaron Anderson who had a breakout year last year finishing 7th in the SEC in yards in his first year as a true starter. Nussmeier is looking to prove a lot in his fifth year in college to possibly become the top quarterback in the draft and nothing would help him out more than winning the Heisman.
Longshot
The quarterback out of Happy Valley Drew Allar is coming into the year with +1600 odds and has the most to prove out of all of the quarterbacks. He brought the Nittany Lions to their first College Football Playoffs last year and in the preseason there were talks of him possibly being the first overall pick in this past draft. Allar has to be able to step up in these bigger games and moments more consistently.
He balls out and shows up throughout the year but needs to make better decisions and better plays when the lights shine brightest. The one problem he had was the lack of receivers, in the game against Notre Dame not one Penn State receiver made a catch.
This year Penn State has upgraded the receiver room, bringing in Kyron Hudson and Trebor Pena through the transfer portal. Drew Allar might be the most pro looking quarterback in the country, and if Penn State wants to be able to finish the job this year, Drew Allar is going to be the answer for this team and going into his 3rd year starting this is the last shot he will get.
Predictions and Thoughts
Arch Manning is the guy who is going to be looked at the most and he is going to have to perform with all eyes on him. Arch is either going to have an average season or be the best quarterback in the nation. I do not see Arch having a bust season, the talent is just too good. At +700 odds Arch has really good value to take.
Garrett Nussmeier out of LSU is at +900 and could be the boom or bust guy. LSU has produced a Heisman quarterback recently and could get one again with Nussmeier.
Drew Allar is the real long shot at +1600 and has the most to prove. He’s got the most promise out of the quarterbacks because his build and experience he just now needs to show it on the field.
