In a one-sentence post on the Betway website on Wednesday, those who bet sports on their site were informed that they need to be making a change.
“Betway will be closing its sportsbook operations in the U.S.,” read the statement.
Just like that, the Betway Sportsbook is no more in nine states, including New Jersey. Betway joins other prominent betting apps such as FOXBet, Unibet and PointsBet that have chosen to cease their US operation.
“We have recently concluded an extensive review of our US operations and, at present, we don’t see a long-term path to profitability for the sportsbook product,” Neal Menashe, CEO of Super Group, owners of Betway, said in a statement.
A prominent online sportsbook presence in Europe and other parts of the world, Betway struggled to gain a foothold in the competitive US market. Betway’s 2023 first quarter earnings report for North America showed a 13% revenue decrease, along with a $21.7 million loss.
Betway will be maintaining its online casino sites in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania, so if you have a Betway account in those states, it will continue to operate, but only for online and mobile casino access.
If you want to bet on sports and you were with Betway, you’ll need to find a new online sportsbook with which to bet. There are a number of choices in the crowded New Jersey sports betting gambling market, so which one should be your new sportsbook of choice if you were a Betway customer?
These are three sportsbook sites that we recommend instead of Betway:
BetMGM
We suggest the BetMGM, the sportsbook app delivers a vast array of markets and bet types, as well as some of the most competitive odds for NFL games in the industry. There’s also an impressive loyalty rewards program that provides chances to earn stays at one of their world-class resorts.
Their live in-play markets are extensive and BetMGM also offers live streaming of events, including Olympics and UFC fights. Sign up as a new account holder with our code NJDOTBET and take advantage of BetMGM’s outstanding welcome bonus offer of a 100% first deposit match up to as much as $1,500.
ESPNBet
Hoping to capitalize on their massive sports viewing audience, the world sports leader jumped into the online sports betting realm with both feet late last year in partnership with Penn National. Since they are new to the game and playing catch up, ESPNBet is currently offering a double play in terms of their welcome bonus offer. Firstly, you can get a second chance bet on your first wager with them worth up to a maximum of $1,000. Secondly, they’ll give you a 200% first deposit match worth as much as $500. In fact, there’s a third option to go with if you don’t care for the first two.
Simply bet as little as $1 on any ESPN sports market and they’ll give you $200 in bonus bets in the form of four $50 wagers. You’ll find that the betting markets and bet types, such as props, at ESPNBet are comparable to all of the leading New Jersey sportsbooks.
BetRivers
Two factors make BetRivers stand out in the crowd of New Jersey sports betting apps. The first is the speed at which they pay out funds. No betting site in the Garden State will process a withdrawal faster than Bet Rivers. Secondly, there’s the BetRivers minimal wagering requirement of a 1x rollover and all bonus funds garnered from their site. It’s the lowest requirement in the industry.
That helps to make up for the fact that in New Jersey, BetRivers casino offers a very small welcome bonus offer of a second-chance bet paid out in bonus bets of up to $250. BetRivers sports delivers a deep bench of sports markets, daily odds boost specials and the stellar iRush Rewards loyalty program.
