Ocean Casino Resort is the glass tower at the north end of the Boardwalk, and the tallest building in Atlantic City. It opened in 2012 as Revel, closed two years later, and reopened as Ocean in 2018. Since then it has become one of the city’s strongest earners. In 2025 its casino floor won $468.1 million from gamblers, up 14.3% on the year and third in Atlantic City behind Borgata and Hard Rock, according to New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement figures.
The ownership question is now settled. Detroit’s Ilitch family bought half of the resort in 2021 and took full ownership on August 3, 2026, through its new Ilitch Gaming company, which also owns MotorCity Casino in Detroit.
From Revel to Ocean
Revel opened on April 2, 2012. It went through two bankruptcies and closed on September 2, 2014. Investor Glenn Straub bought the empty building in 2015 and announced plans to reopen it as TEN, which never happened.
Owner Bruce Deifik reopened it as Ocean Resort Casino on June 27, 2018. In 2019 Luxor Capital Group took control and the name changed to Ocean Casino Resort. The Ilitch family bought a 50% stake in 2021 and installed its own management team. In June 2026 it agreed to buy out Luxor’s remaining half, and that deal closed in August.
Hotel
Ocean has 1,860 rooms and suites on 20 beachfront acres. Revel opened with 1,399 rooms, and the rest were finished and opened in 2022. Room types run from Contemporary King and Queen rooms to studio suites, one-bedroom suites and Social Suites with one or two bedrooms. Floor-to-ceiling windows look out over the ocean or back over the city and the bay.
You must be 21 to check in. Hotel rooms are non-smoking, and the resort is not pet-friendly, though ADA service animals are allowed.
Casino
The gaming floor covers 135,000 square feet, with nearly 2,000 slot machines and 130 table games, according to the resort. There is an Asian table games pit and a separate high-limit table area.
Two spaces stand out for bigger players:
- The Loft: a private high-limit table room on the 44th floor, with ocean views.
- The Cove: the high-limit slot room, with its own cage and cocktail service. A $14 million expansion announced in October 2026 will take it from 7,450 to 11,935 square feet and hold more than 192 slot machines. It is due to open in early 2027.
Ocean no longer has a poker room. If you want live poker, Tropicana is the nearest room on the Boardwalk.
Sportsbook
Sports betting is in The Gallery Bar, Book & Games, a 12,000-square-foot venue on the casino floor. It has a 100-foot elevated bar, 140 feet of LED walls and a food menu, with the Balcony Bar on a mezzanine above.
Fanatics has run the retail sportsbook inside The Gallery since September 2024. You can read our Fanatics Sportsbook review for the app side.
