The Major League Baseball season has flipped the calendar to August, which means we are officially in the dog days of summer.
So let’s take a look at which New York baseball team offers better value to win their respective league, the Yankees or Mets. View NJ sportsbook promos here.
Currently, the Yankees have the second shortest odds to win the World Series at +500, behind only the LA Dodgers who are +330 with the betMGM NJ bonus. The Yankees are also the favorite to win the American League with odds of +250, while Baltimore, the current AL East leader is +380. In the AL East, you can take the Yankees to win the division, but you won’t get much of a return with odds of -195.
As for the Mets, who are currently third in the National League East and aren’t even one of the three NL Wild Card teams, they have much longer odds to win but could offer plenty of value if you’re looking for a big score.
The Mets are one game out of a National League Wild Card spot and offer +5000 odds at DraftKings to win the World Series. The Mets are +2000 to represent the senior circuit in the World Series and they offer the same odds to win the NL East. If you think the Mets are going to make the playoffs, you can bet that for +100 right now at NJ online sportsbooks, such as DraftKings.
So which of these bets makes the most sense?
The Yankees are going to make the playoffs, but how far can they advance? The Yankees are led by Aaron Judge, who is a heavy betting favorite at -1200 to win the AL MVP Award, and Juan Soto, who is +2000 to win the award. Where the Yankees struggle is on the mound, and the playoffs are about pitching, so I think winning the World Series will be tough with their pitching staff.
I like Baltimore to win the East and advance further in the playoffs, so I am passing on the Yankees bets.
Over with the Mets, I think they offer some good value in a few different spots, including representing the N.L. in the World Series at +2000. The Mets have been playing very well since returning to the States after their series with the Phillies in London back in June.
Shortstop Francisco Lindor has been excellent and offers +1000 odds to win the National League MVP award, which is the third shortest odds at bet365 NJ. The Mets have solid starting pitching and a good bullpen with Edwin Diaz at the back end.
The National League is wide open with the Dodgers (+165) and Phillies (+280) the betting favorites to represent the NL, but both teams finished with losing records in the month of July to make things much more interesting.
If I am playing one of the New York teams, give me the Mets at +2000 to represent the National League as value play.
