National League Cy Young Odds Update: Skenes Closing In on Top Spot

With the Major League Baseball All-Star game in the books, let’s take a look at the Cy Young odds for the National League pitchers by the top NJ sportsbook apps, such as bet365 NJ.

Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes got the start in the mid-summer classic and his odds are now closing in on the top 2 pitcher in the NL race.

Atlanta’s Chris Sale still has the top spot with odds of +140 at the DraftKings Sportsbook.  Sale is having a tremendous season with a 13-3 record, 2.70 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and a 140 strikeouts in 110 innings through his first 18 first-half starts.

In the No. 2 spot in Philadelphia ace Zack Wheeler, who also was named to the NL All-Star game with a fine first-half, going 10-4 with a 2.70 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and a 126 strikeouts in 116.2 innings in 19 starts.

Next up is the rookie phenom Paul Skenes, who has odds of +450 at DraftKings.

His numbers are outstanding, he has notched a 1.90 ERA and 89 strikeouts, going 6-0 in 11 starts, starting the All-Star game for the senior circuit.

After those Top 3 candidates, everyone is considered a longshot with the Phillies Ranger Suarez, who has odds of +1800 after an impressive first half with a 3.08 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 95 strikeouts across 108 innings (18 starts).

Here is a look at the Top 10 candidates at DraftKings sportsbook (odds):

  • Sale +140
  • Wheeler +140
  • Skenes +450
  • Suarez +1800
  • Glasgow +2500
  • Webb +2800
  • Fried +3500
  • Lopez +3500
  • Nola +6000
  • Cease +6000

The best value by far is grabbing Skenes at +450 with the betMGM sportsbook bonus code NJDOTBET (free bet deal), if he continues the dominant pace he is one, this is tremendous value.

Sale and Wheeler are both having great seasons, but Skenes numbers are just eye-popping and he will be very appealing to voters.

If you’re looking for a real longshot, Suarez got off to a great start, but slowed down in his last few starts before the All-Star game.

Over his first 15 starts, Suarez was dazzling with a 1.75 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, 95 strikeouts in 92.1 innings pitched. If he can regain that form he would be a solid longshot candidate at +1800.
