NASCAR Playoffs start Sunday: Which drivers have the best odds with New Jersey sport books?

Six former champions highlight the 2024 NASCAR Cup Championship which begins Sunday, Sept. 8 in Atlanta and concludes Nov. 10 with the championship in Phoenix.

The last four champs, Ryan Blaney (2023), Joey Logano (2022), Kyle Larson (2021) and Chase Elliott (2020) are all back to try for another. New Jersey native Martin Truex Jr. (2017) and Brad Keselowski (2012) are also in the mix.

Of the 16 drivers to make the playoffs, eight, or half, are either with Hendrick Motorsports or Joe Gibbs Racing. Team Penske placed three of its drivers in the playoffs.

Hedrick has Larson, William Byron, Elliott and Alex Bowman. Gibbs has Christopher Bell, Denny Hamlin, Truex Jr. and Joe’s grandson, Ty Gibbs. Blaney, Logano, and Austin Cindric represent Penske.

Here’s a look each of the 16 drivers and their odds to win it all thanks to the top sportsbooks in New Jersey

  • Kyle Larson (4-1) — Larson, who won the Cup title in 2021 and finished second last year, is the top seed and led the circuit in wins with four this season. His 10 top 5 finishes were second best.
  • Christopher Bell (9-2) — Bell made it to the Final 4 a year ago and is looking for more this year. He won three times this season and had 15 top 10 finishes, which was second best.
  • Tyler Reddick (11-2) — Out of Michael Jordan’s 23 Racing, Reddick won twice this year. His 11 top 5 finishes and 18 top 10 finishes were the best among all drivers.
  • William Byron (7-1) — Another driver looking for his first title, Byron won three times this year and had an impressive 13 top 10 finishes.
  • Ryan Blaney (8-1) — Blaney is looking to be the first driver to repeat since Jimmie Johnson did so in 2009-10. He won twice this season and had 11 top 10s.
  • Denny Hamlin (4-1) — It’s hard to believe with 54 career wins, 12th best all-time, that Hamlin is looking for his first Cup title. He won three more times this year but would love to make it to Phoenix and win there.
  • Chase Elliott (11-1) — The 2020 champ won once this season. His 12 top 10s showed he can still be a major factor.
  • Brad Keselowski (20-1) — If 2012 champ Keselowski can upset the field and win his second title. The 12 years in between would be the longest in Cup history.
  • Joey Logano (18-1) — The only two-time champ in the playoffs, the 2018 and 2022 winner had a bit of a down year with one win, four top 5s and 8 top 10s.
  • Austin Cindric (120-1) — The 26-year-old Penske driver has the least impressive season stats, with just two top 5s and three top 10s. But his win in the World Wide Technology qualified him.
  • Daniel Suarez (120-1) — The Mexico native clinched a spot early with a win in Atlanta in week 3. If he can win there again he’ll move to the Round of 12.
  • Alex Bowman (40-1) — It was a steady year for the veteran. One win, but 12 top 10s.
  • Chase Briscoe (100-1) — His narrow win over Kyle Busch at Darlington last Sunday earned him a spot for Stewart-Haas. And kept Busch out.
  • Harrison Burton (200-1) — The youngest driver in the race at 24, Burton’s win a week ago in Daytona qualified him. The win was also his only top 5 finish.
  • Ty Gibbs (35-1) — He needed things to go his way, Sunday, and they did. He didn’t win a race, but his 7 top 5s and 11 top 10s were enough to earn him a spot.
  • Martin Truex Jr. (18-1) —In his final season racing, Truex earned the final spot in the field.

Which way should Garden State bettors lean?

Reddick was the most consistent driver all year and Larson the most dangerous. That’s why they are two of our favorites. This has been a Joe Gibbs year, however, so don’t be surprised if Bell wins it all. If you’re looking for better odds look to Elliott or if you really want a longshot, Bowman.
