NFL Monday Night Football prediction: will Cousins continue to struggle under the night lights?

Maybe being with a third different team will make a difference for Kirk Cousins.

Then again. . .

Cousins and his new team the Atlanta Falcons, coming off an opening-day loss, travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles on Monday Night Football. The Eagles are listed as a 6 1/2-point favorite and the over/under is 47 with most New Jersey sportsbooks that have some special NFL bonus bets for you. For example, Fanduel NJ offers up to $200 in bonus. And if you use this betMGM NJ bonus code, you can claim up to $1500 in promo credits.

Monday night has not been kind to Cousins in his career. This will be his 14th career game in front of the Monday night cameras. His record in his first 13 games is 3-10. While all three of those wins came in his last four MNF appearances, two were against the lowly Chicago Bears. So take away the Bears and he’s 1-10 on Monday nights. Cousins’ quarterback rating on Monday is 87.0, which is 11 points lower than his overall career rating.

In six games when he was with Washington, Cousins was 0-6 on Monday night. He was much better with Minnesota going 3-4 in seven Monday starts, with those two wins against the Bears included.

Now in his second game with his third team, he gets the Eagles, a team he has faced 11 times in his career and owns a 6-5 record. He is 0-2 against Philadelphia on Monday night, however.

In his first game as a Falcon last week, after returning from a torn Achilles, Cousins completed 16 of 26 passes for just 155 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Atlanta lost at home to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 18-10.

The Eagles coming off an opening-night win in Brazil against the Green Bay Packers are looking for another quick start to the season. Philadelphia has won 10 of its first 11 games each of the last two years and will be looking to get to 2-0 this week.

While Cousins has had mild success against the Eagles, both with Washington (4-3) and Minnesota (2-2), his current team has not, especially in Philadelphia. Atlanta has not won at Lincoln Financial Field since 2012 — a year where everything fell apart for the Eagles and head coach Andy Reid ended up being fired. The Falcons have dropped four straight in Philly since then, losing in 2016, ’17, ’18 and ’21.

Atlanta managed just 226 total yards of offense in last week’s loss to Pittsburgh. Running back Bijan Robinson had almost half of that with 68 yards rushing and another 43 receiving. Tight end Kyle Pitts was held to three catches and just 26 yards, while No. 1 wide receiver Drake London caught just two balls for 15 yards.

The Falcons defense did not allow a Steelers touchdown, but six field Pittsburgh field goals were more than enough.

Philadelphia overcame three turnovers by rolling up 410 yards in its win in Brazil. Running back Saquon Barkley ran for 109 yards and two touchdowns and also caught a touchdown pass. Wide receivers A.J. Brown (eight catches, 119 yards) and Devonte Smith ( seven, 84) also had big games for the Eagles.

NFL Monday Night Football Prediction

The Falcons lost to a team from Western Pennsylvania last week and now get one from the Eastern part of the state. It’s not going to get easier for them. The Eagles offense has too many weapons for the Falcons to handle. And while Atlanta’s offense may do better than it did last week, it won’t be enough.

Look for the Eagles to cover the generous spread in a 31-17 affair that drops Cousins to 3-11 on MNF.
