Prop bets are legal at every licensed NJ sportsbook, on the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, soccer and out-of-state college games. For depth, DraftKings posts around 150 player props per NFL game, and FanDuel’s same-game parlay builder is the one the rest of the market copies. The one hard limit in New Jersey: no props, or any other bets, on New Jersey college teams or on college games played in the state.
A prop bet is a wager on something inside a game rather than the final result: a quarterback’s passing yards, a first touchdown scorer, the number of strikeouts a pitcher records. Below are the NJ books, how the odds work, and the rules that apply.

BetRivers, Prime Sportsbook and Bally Bet also take props, but their menus are noticeably thinner, especially on lower-profile games. They work better as a second account for price checks than as a main prop book.
How prop bets work: player, game and futures props
Player props
Most player props are over/unders on a stat line the sportsbook sets. Say a quarterback’s passing yards line is 249.5, priced like this:
| Side | Odds | Bet $50 to win | Implied probability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Over 249.5 | -115 | $43.48 | 53.5% |
| Under 249.5 | -105 | $47.62 | 51.2% |
The over needs 250 yards or more. The half-yard means there’s no push.
Add the two implied probabilities and you get 104.7%. The extra 4.7 points is the book’s margin, and it works out to a hold of about 4.5% if money comes in evenly on both sides. That’s why line shopping matters on props: if another NJ book has the same over at -105, you need to win less often to break even.
Yes/no player props are priced on a single line. A running back to score an anytime touchdown at +150 has an implied probability of 40%. A $20 bet pays $30 profit, $50 back in total. Alternate lines work the same way at longer odds: over 299.5 yards on the same quarterback might pay +240, an implied 29.4%.
Game props
Game props cover events in the game that aren’t tied to one player: first team to score, total touchdowns, whether a game goes to overtime, the margin of victory. Super Bowl week brings the biggest menu of the year, including novelty markets like the coin toss. A “Will there be a safety? Yes” price of +900 implies a 10% chance.
Futures props
Futures props settle over a season. Examples are a player’s season passing-yards total, NFL MVP, or a team’s regular-season win total. An MVP candidate at +800 has an implied probability of 11.1%, and a $25 bet pays $200 profit. The catch is that your stake is tied up for months, and the book’s margin on futures boards is usually wider than on a single game.
How props settle
Props settle on official final stats. At most books, a player prop is void and refunded if the player doesn’t take part, but it stands once he’s played a single snap or minute. That’s where injury protection matters.
FanDuel’s BetProtect+ costs an extra 3% of the stake. If the player gets hurt, a straight bet is refunded in cash and a parlay leg is removed without voiding the rest. Fanatics’ FAIR PLAY protection covers NFL player props automatically if a player is injured in the first half, with no extra fee. Check the bet slip, because the rule can differ by market.
Same-game parlays: why the price is lower than you expect
A same-game parlay, or SGP, combines props and lines from one game into one bet. Every leg must win. Parlays were the biggest single category of NJ sports betting in 2025, with $3.94 billion wagered.
Take three legs from one NFL game:
| Leg | Odds | Decimal |
|---|---|---|
| QB over 249.5 passing yards | -115 | 1.870 |
| His team -3.5 | -110 | 1.909 |
| His top receiver over 64.5 receiving yards | -110 | 1.909 |
If the legs were unrelated, you’d multiply the decimals: 1.870 × 1.909 × 1.909 = 6.81, or about +581. A $10 bet would pay $58.10 profit.
An SGP builder won’t pay that. The legs are correlated: if the quarterback throws for 300 yards, his top receiver probably had a big day and his team probably covered. The book adjusts for that, so the same three legs might come back at +450, a $45 profit on $10. That gap is the sportsbook’s protection against correlated parlays, plus its margin on each leg.
Two practical points follow. The more legs you add, the more the book’s margin compounds. And SGP boosts and parlay insurance are the most common existing-customer promos at NJ books, which is worth weighing when you choose where to build one.
Which NJ sportsbook is best for player props?
DraftKings for menu depth. Around 150 player props per NFL game, and SGPx lets you combine same-game parlays across games. Prices on the most popular props don’t always lead the market, so compare before betting big.
FanDuel for building SGPs. The builder is quick and clear, live SGPs run on NFL and NBA games, and BetProtect+ adds injury cover. Its prop menu trails the deepest rivals on some markets.
BetMGM for NFL and NBA volume. Hundreds of props on major games, about 100 markets per NFL game, SGP+ and Edit My Bet, which lets you change a bet after placing it.
bet365 for live props. Same Game Parlay+ works in-play as well as pre-game, and the in-play menu is one of the strongest in the state. Live betting has its own guide: NJ live betting.
Fanatics for injury protection. FAIR PLAY covers NFL player props automatically, and FanCash on each eligible bet works like a rebate.
Keeping two or three of these books open is the simplest edge on props. Each book sets its own prop lines, so the same player’s yardage line or price often differs from one NJ app to the next.
NJ rules on prop bets
College props are legal in New Jersey, with the state’s usual limits. You can bet player props on college games between out-of-state teams played outside New Jersey, where your book offers them. Menus vary, and some books post few or no college player props.
No props on New Jersey college teams or college games in the state. State law bans any bet on a New Jersey college team, wherever it plays, and on any college game played in New Jersey. That rules out props on Rutgers, Princeton, Seton Hall and Monmouth players, and on every player in the Army-Navy Game at MetLife Stadium on December 12, 2026. Our NJ college football betting guide covers that rule in full.
A college player prop ban is pending, not law. Sen. Kristin Corrado’s bill to bar player-specific props on college sports passed a Senate committee 5–0 in June 2025 as S3080 but never reached a full vote. It was reintroduced in January 2026 as S1170. More than a dozen states, including New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Maryland, already ban college player props.
Micro-bet bills are also pending. S2160 and A3258 would ban rapid-fire in-play bets, such as the result of the next pitch. Neither has become law.
High school sports are off limits, and you must be 21 or older and physically in New Jersey to bet. More on the state’s rules is in our NJ gambling law guide.
FAQ
Can you bet on player props in New Jersey?
Yes. Every licensed NJ sportsbook offers player props on the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, soccer and other sports. Props on New Jersey college teams and college games played in the state are banned.
What is the best sportsbook for player props in NJ?
DraftKings has the deepest menu, with around 150 player props per NFL game. FanDuel has the best same-game parlay builder, and BetMGM posts hundreds of props on NFL and NBA games.
Are college player props legal in NJ?
Yes, for out-of-state teams playing outside New Jersey. A bill to ban college player props, S1170, is pending in the state Senate but hasn’t passed.
What happens to a prop bet if the player doesn’t play?
At most books the bet is void and your stake is refunded. If the player takes the field and then leaves injured, the bet usually stands unless the book offers injury protection, such as FanDuel’s BetProtect+ or Fanatics’ FAIR PLAY.
Why does a same-game parlay pay less than a regular parlay?
Because the legs are correlated. A quarterback’s big passing day makes his receiver’s over more likely, so the book shortens the combined price.
Can I use bonus bets on prop bets?
Usually, yes. Most NJ books let you place bonus bets on props and same-game parlays, subject to minimum odds. Winnings are paid without the bonus stake.
