In the 57-year history of the NFL’s Super Bowl there has only been one instance where the same two teams played each other in consecutive years.
That was in 1993 and 1994 when the Dallas Cowboys beat the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowls XXVII and XXVIII. Sportsbooks in New Jersey and across the country think it just might happen a second time this season.
Super Bowl 2024 Betting Odds and Predictions
Defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City and defending NFC champion Philadelphia are the two favorites to win Super Bowl LVIII. Kansas City is +650 to win the Super Bowl and +375 to win the AFC. Philadelphia is +800 to win the Super Bowl and +290 to win the NFC, according to betMGM sportsbook details.
The Chiefs, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid have been to three of the past four Super Bowls, winning two and losing one. The Eagles have been to the Super Bowl twice in the past six years, winning one under former head coach Doug Pederson and quarterback Nick Foles and losing last year under current head coach Nick Siriani and quarterback Jalen Hurts.
San Francisco, which ran out of quarterbacks in the NFC Championship Game loss to the Eagles, is the consensus third choice at +800 to win the Super Bowl and at +350 to win the NFC. The 49ers are hoping second-year quarterback Brock Purdy can stay healthy and continue the magic he displayed over the second half of the 2022 season.
The 49ers have not won the Super Bowl since 1995. They have been there twice but lost to Baltimore in 2013 and to Kansas City in 2020.
Buffalo, which has been knocking on the AFC door the past four years, is the fourth choice at +880 to win its first Super Bowl and +525 to win the AFC for the fifth time in its history.
What might be the best bet on the board is the Cincinnati Bengals at +1100 to win the Super Bowl and +525 to win the AFC. Quarterback Joe Burrow and wide receiver Ja’Mar Chase form a dynamic passing game and the Bengals seemed primed to finally get over the hump for their first title.
Rounding out the strong AFC the Baltimore Ravens, behind quarterback Lamar Jackson and a strong defense, are +1400 to win their third Super Bowl in 2024 and +1000 to win the AFC. The New York Jets, with future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers now at the helm, are +1600 to win the Super Bowl for the first time since Joe Namath guaranteed the win in Super Bowl III. Finally, the Los Angeles Chargers, who will try to get by Kansas City in the AFC West, are +2200 to win the Super Bowl for the first time and +1200 to get there for the second time.
In the NFC behind the favored Eagles and 49ers, the Dallas Cowboys are the third choice. Head coach Mike McCarthy, who won a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers, is looking to become the first head coach to win a Super Bowl with two different teams. The Cowboys are +1200 to win the Super Bowl and +550 to get there.
