NJ Lottery online: how to buy tickets and what you'll pay

You can't buy a New Jersey Lottery ticket from the Lottery's own website or app. What you can do is order one through a lottery courier, a registered company that buys the paper ticket at a retailer for you, scans it, and holds it until the draw. New Jersey was the first state to legalize couriers, in 2017, and they're how most people in the state buy lottery tickets online.

Best NJ lottery apps by category

  • Best for lottery and casino in one account: Jackpocket — one login covers the courier and Jackpocket Casino, which runs under Harrah’s Atlantic City license.
  • Best for an NJ track record: Jackpocket — the state’s first registered courier, and the app behind a $9.4 million Pick-6 win in 2021.
  • Best for Millionaire for Life: Lotto.com — its NJ site takes orders for the $5 daily game alongside Pick-3, Pick-4, Pick-6, Powerball and Mega Millions.
  • Best for responsible-gambling tools: Jackpot.com — the only courier to launch with iCAP certification from the National Council on Problem Gambling, plus a default daily deposit limit.
  • Best for small wins: Jackpot.com — prizes under $600 are credited to your account in real time.
  • Best for avoiding service fees: an NJ Lottery retailer — stores sell tickets at face value, while couriers add a service or processing fee.

NJ lottery courier guides: the three registered apps in detail

Three couriers take New Jersey orders in 2026: Jackpocket, Lotto.com and Jackpot.com. TheLotter, a fourth, stopped accepting NJ orders on November 19, 2025.

Jackpocket Lottery NJ: the courier that started it

Jackpocket was New Jersey’s first registered lottery courier and has taken NJ orders since 2019, two years after the state’s courier law took effect. DraftKings bought the company for $750 million in 2024. Its best-known New Jersey moment came in 2021, when a player won a $9.4 million Pick-6 jackpot on a ticket ordered through the app.

The Jackpocket NJ app orders tickets for the state’s draw games and the multi-state jackpots, and it charges its service fee upfront when you fund your account.

It’s also the only courier with its own NJ online casino. Jackpocket Casino launched with Caesars in January 2024, under Harrah’s Atlantic City license, and one account covers lottery and casino. For players 21 and over, the casino welcome offer is a 100% deposit match up to $500 + $10 in lottery credits. The casino app is rated 3.9 from 1,368 App Store ratings.

Lotto.com Lottery NJ: a registered courier with the full draw-game menu

Lotto.com is a courier service registered with the New Jersey Lottery, and it says plainly that it isn’t affiliated with any state or multi-state lottery. It’s one of the larger national couriers, operating in 11 states as of late 2025.

Its New Jersey site takes orders for Pick-3, Pick-4, Pick-6, Powerball, Mega Millions and Millionaire for Life, the $5 daily game that replaced Cash4Life in February 2026. Like every courier, Lotto.com buys the real ticket from a New Jersey retailer on your behalf. Tickets cost face value, and a processing fee is added at checkout, so check that fee before you set up repeat orders.

You must be 18 and physically in New Jersey to order. As with any courier, smaller prizes are usually credited to your account, while larger ones are claimed with the NJ Lottery using the physical ticket.

Jackpot.com Lottery NJ: responsible-gambling tools built in from day one

Jackpot.com launched in New Jersey in May 2024, its sixth state, after going through the licensing and regulatory approval process with the New Jersey Lottery and the Division of Gaming Enforcement. It now lists seven states, and former New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur is among its investors.

The Jackpot.com app is rated 4.8 from about 39,000 App Store ratings. It takes orders for Powerball, Mega Millions and New Jersey games such as Pick-3, Pick-4 and Pick-6. Prizes under $600 are credited to your account in real time; for bigger wins, the ticket is delivered to you to claim.

Jackpot.com was the only lottery courier to launch with iCAP certification from the National Council on Problem Gambling. It sets a default daily deposit limit and offers spend limits, self-suspension and self-exclusion. You must be 18 and physically in New Jersey to order.

How to buy NJ Lottery tickets online: the courier system, step by step

  1. Choose a courier app. New Jersey registers couriers through the NJ Lottery. Jackpocket, owned by DraftKings, was the first registered in the state, and Lotto.com and Jackpot.com also take NJ orders. Registered couriers are listed on the NJ Lottery website.
  2. Verify your age and location. You must be 18 and physically in New Jersey to place an order.
  3. Pick your game and numbers. The courier buys the real ticket at a New Jersey retailer and uploads a scan to your account before the draw.
  4. Collect your winnings. Smaller prizes are usually credited to your account. Larger prizes are claimed with the NJ Lottery, and the courier hands over the physical ticket.

Couriers charge a service fee on top of the ticket price, so check what you’re paying before you set up a subscription.

NJ Lottery games you can play online: from Pick-3 to Millionaire for Life

New Jersey games: Pick-3 and Pick-4 (twice a day), Jersey Cash 5, Pick-6, Quick Draw and Cash Pop.

Multi-state games: Powerball, Mega Millions and Millionaire for Life.

Two recent changes catch people out. Mega Millions went from $2 to $5 a play in April 2025, with promised improvements to prizes and jackpot odds. Cash4Life ended in February 2026 and was replaced by Millionaire for Life, a $5 game drawn daily at 11:15 p.m. with a top prize of $1 million a year for life.

New Jersey has a long lottery history. Voters approved the lottery in 1969, tickets went on sale in 1970, and the state’s Pick-3, launched in 1975, is described as the first US game where players chose their own numbers.

NJ lottery tax: how New Jersey taxes winnings over $10,000

New Jersey only taxes a lottery prize when a single win is over $10,000. Wins aren’t added together over the year, so twenty $500 prizes aren’t taxed by the state.

Single prizeNJ withholding
$10,000 or lessNone
$10,001 to $500,0005% of the whole prize
Over $500,0008% of the whole prize

The rate applies to the full amount, not just the part over $10,000. Withholding rises to 8% on any prize over $10,000 if you don’t provide a valid taxpayer ID. Federal tax is separate.

Biggest NJ lottery wins: the $1.128 billion Neptune ticket and more

  • $1.128 billion, Mega Millions, March 2024. Sold at a ShopRite in Neptune Township, the largest prize ever won on a ticket sold in New Jersey. The winner took the $537.5 million cash option.
  • $211 million, Powerball, 2010. Sold in Morris Plains, the state’s first Powerball jackpot.
  • $9.4 million, Pick-6, 2021. Won on a ticket ordered through Jackpocket, one of the bigger courier wins in the state.

NJ Lottery vs other gambling: ages, apps and instant games

The lottery is the only form of gambling in New Jersey you can buy at a convenience store, and its age limit matches horse racing and daily fantasy at 18. Casinos and sportsbooks require you to be 21. If you’re looking for instant games online, NJ-licensed online casinos also run lottery-style draw and scratch games, but those are casino products, not NJ Lottery tickets.
